By signing a new Finance Contract with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) provided an amount of EUR 150 million intended to finance the projects of Mid-Caps, large private companies and public entities in Croatia. Special emphasis of this loan will be put on promoting green investments. This is the first tranche of a new EUR 350 million financing accord between the EIB and HBOR to expand access to financing for Croatian companies.

The loan will be deployed via direct lending by HBOR and through commercial banks and other financial intermediaries. At least 30 percent of the financing will be earmarked for projects contributing to green transition, including investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, sustainable construction and clean transport.

”This initiative will expand financial support to a broad range of Croatian companies and public entities, with a strong emphasis on climate action and sustainability”, said EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska and emphasised that the realisation of the accord reflected the shared commitment of the EIB and HBOR to unlocking green and inclusive growth across all regions of Croatia.

The operation is structured as a multi-beneficiary intermediated loan (MBIL). In addition to advancing the European Union‘s goals to promote climate action and environmental sustainability, it will help foster even stronger economic activity and social cohesion across Croatia. HBOR will ensure, as it has been the case in cooperating with the EIB so far, that all final beneficiaries comply with relevant national and EU legislation, with a special focus on preserving environmental, climate and social standards.

"We are pleased to continue our longstanding partnership with the EIB, aimed at strengthening a sustainable and resilient economy. This new financing further reinforces HBOR's role in supporting green and climate-resilient projects, contributing to the achievement of Croatia’s and the European Union’s strategic goals in the area of green transition,” said Hrvoje Čuvalo, President of the Management Board of HBOR.

The conclusion of this finance contract and the execution of the aforementioned accord represent a continuation of the successful cooperation between the EIB and HBOR, which has lasted for more than two decades. So far, the EIB and HBOR have concluded altogether 28 finance contracts worth EUR 3.8 billion, which have enabled the financing of more than 8,000 projects across Croatia.
