The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a new finance contract in the amount of EUR 200 million, intended for promoting further investments of private companies and the public sector in the Republic of Croatia, with special emphasis on green transition projects.
This is the second tranche of the framework loan totalling EUR 350 million, the aim of which is to improve the accessibility of financing to Croatian companies and further strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of the domestic economy.
HBOR will place these funds through direct lending, as well as through cooperation with commercial banks, and will be focused on financing investments by medium-sized enterprises, large private companies and public sector projects, intended for the development of new production capacities, further modernisation and expansion of business, green transition and stronger development of public infrastructure.
In this respect, at least 30 percent of the total funds will be directed to projects that contribute to climate goals and environmental protection, including investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. This type of investments will help Croatian companies reduce energy costs, increase the share of investments in the green transition and consequently strengthen their long-term competitiveness.
"In this way, the EIB shows that it remains committed to supporting Croatian companies precisely when and where they need it most," said the EIB Vice-President Marko Primorac at the signing of the contract, adding that by cooperating closely with reliable partners such as HBOR, the EIB transforms European funds into concrete investments that drive the green transition, protect jobs and strengthen the competitiveness of the economy.
President of the Management Board of HBOR Hrvoje Čuvalo pointed out that the contract further confirmed the importance of the long-standing cooperation with the European Investment Bank. „By signing this contract we continue our successful cooperation with the EIB, which has lasted for more than 25 years, and through which almost EUR 4 billion have been provided for investments and projects in Croatia so far. Newly available funds will enable us to further strengthen the investment cycle, especially in the area of green transition, but also to support the modernisation and growth of companies as well as the development of public infrastructure“, emphasized Čuvalo on this occasion.
The signing of the respective contract is a continuation of a long-standing successful partnership between HBOR and the EIB, within the framework of which 29 finance contracts totalling EUR 3.92 billion have been signed since 2001. This has enabled the implementation of numerous projects and investments and significantly encouraged the development of the economy in the Republic of Croatia.
