The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) has become an associate member of the European Association of Guarantee Institutions (AECM), a non-profit international association, whose mission is to promote guarantee instruments with a special focus on the growth and development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
By joining AECM, HBOR gains the opportunity of connecting and cooperating with a network of related institutions as well as exchanging knowledge and best practices on expert topics, which will further strengthen HBOR's role in supporting and promoting the Croatian economy in line with its strategic goals.
AECM brings together 47 members from 32 countries and has 3 main objectives for its activities:
HBOR officially became an associate member of AECM at the AECM’s annual event called "Future readiness of SMEs: what needs to be done" that took place in Berlin on 15 and 16 May 2025 and gathered more than 230 representatives of development banks, international associations, financial institutions and ministries not only from the EU but also from all over the world.
Alan Herjavec, Member of HBOR’s Management Board, presented HBOR's activities at the General Assembly that took place on 15 May, where HBOR was accepted as a member unanimously.

- Representing the interests of its members before the institutions of the EU,
- Exchanging knowledge and practices among its members (working groups have been established, annual seminars, operational trainings and specific ad hoc events on selected topics are organised),
- Promoting guarantee instruments (research on the guarantee sector is conducted, relevant technical information, statistics and other publications promoting guarantee instruments are provided).
