Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and the City of Konjic signed today in Mostar a Donation Agreement in the amount of EUR 100 thousand for a complete rehabilitation and reconstruction of the library within the framework of Hrvatski dom (Croatian Home) in the village of Kostajnica near Konjic, which was severely damaged in the floods last autumn. The goal of the donation is to preserve cultural identity and strengthen social life of the Croatian community in the Konjic area.

The Agreement was signed by the President of the Management Board of HBOR Hrvoje Čuvalo and the Mayor of the City of Konjic Osman Ćatić, in the presence of the President of the Croatian National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović, the representative of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Darijana Filipović, the Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Tomislav Martinović and the Prime Minister of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Marija Buhač.

The rehabilitation and reconstruction of the library represents an important contribution to the creation of facilities for gatherings, cultural events and social activities that are of particular importance for local population. With this donation, HBOR wants to ensure long-term support for projects that promote togetherness, preservation of identity and balanced development in communities of the Croatian people outside the Republic of Croatia.

”For us in HBOR, this initiative is not only financial support, but also a demonstration of respect for the Croatian community living here. We believe that the reconstruction of the library will bring new strength to the local community, and that it will continue to be a place of regular gathering, which is the foundation of remaining united and connected “, said the President of HBOR’s Management Board Hrvoje Čuvalo.
He also reminded that the Government of the Republic of Croatia had financed the reconstruction of this building already in 2003. ”Although the facilities were completely destroyed last year, by today’s donation we show that the care and support for the Croatian community in this area have not come to an end“, concluded Čuvalo.

The Mayor of the City of Konjic, Osman Ćatić, expressed his gratitude to HBOR for the donation. "Projects like this embody HBOR's slogan: Together We Achieve More! Therefore, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Konjic and Kostajnica, I thank the people of Croatia for being with us since the beginning of the floods," Ćatić stressed on the occasion.
 
Roundtable gathering numerous entrepreneurs from Hercegovina

On the eve of the signing of the Donation Agreement, a roundtable entitled "Regional Economic Cooperation and Opportunities for Internationalisation of Business" took place in Mostar bringing together representatives of development banks from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, local entrepreneurs and representatives of local authorities. The discussion focused on common challenges and opportunities opening up through stronger cross-border cooperation, exchange of experiences and application of best practices in the field of finance, entrepreneurship development and investment attraction.

The roundtable served as a platform for an open dialogue on the promotion of regional competitiveness, support for exports and strengthening of sectors with high development potential, where HBOR presented its strategic approach to the internationalisation of the Croatian economy.

These events additionally confirm HBOR's commitment to the strengthening of economic and social ties between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the active role that development banks can play in the promotion of sustainable growth, balanced development and mutual cooperation.
