The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) hosted the 22nd International Conference on Export Promotion held in Split on 9 and 10 October 2025. It was a traditional gathering of leading representatives of the Croatian economy and exporters that discussed key economic trends and strategic challenges, as well as the ways and possibilities for more competitive presence of Croatian exporters in global markets. The Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina and the Mayor of the City of Split Tomislav Šuta also attended the Conference.
Within the framework of this year’s Conference, special emphasis was put on requirements of the OECD membership posed to Croatian exporters, especially regarding the transparency, sustainability and adjustment to international standards, as well as the impact of climate change and technological transformation on global trade.
“In the first nine months of this year, HBOR approved new loans in the total amount of more than EUR 900 million, an increase of 53 percent compared to the same period previous year. Investment loans retained a high share of 77 percent in total placements, which confirms that strong investment activities of entrepreneurs have been continued. Almost 50 percent of lending activity was targeting exporters, and through export credit insurance instruments, export transactions were insured in the amount of EUR 427 million. Short-term insurance performed by Hrvatsko kreditno osiguranje (HKO) included, the total value of insured exports is approximately EUR 1 billion. The results achieved confirm the significant role of HBOR in financing investments and exports and its contribution to strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the Croatian economy“, emphasized on this occasion the President of HBOR’s Management Board Hrvoje Čuvalo.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina reminded in his speech of the Sustainable Tourism Loans financial instrument that is implemented by HBOR. This is the programme under which entrepreneurs are provided the possibility of writing off a part of loan principal of up to 50 percent, by which investments in sustainable and energy efficient tourism projects are encouraged.
As part of the Conference programme, Zoran Vakula held a lecture on weather and climate, where he spoke about the connection of climate change and economic trends and their impact on planning and business decision-making.
This year’s Conference again confirmed the important role of HBOR as a driver of the economy and support to Croatian exporters, thus emphasizing the readiness to respond to new challenges in an increasingly dynamic global environment.
