On Friday, 10 April, in the Varaždin City Hall, a loan contract was signed between the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and the Varaždin Tech Park for financing the project "Innovation Centre in the Varaždin Tech Park: INNOCENT".
The contract was signed by Josip Pavković, Member of HBOR’s Management Board, and Vedran Bubalo, Managing Director of the Varaždin Tech Park. The event was also attended by Neven Bosilj, Ph.D., the Mayor of the City of Varaždin, and HBOR's representatives: Tomislav Marković, Managing Director of the Regional Offices Management Department, Mario Perić, Managing Director of the Banks, Financial Institutions and Local Governments Units Department, and Senka Jurković, Head of the Local Government Cooperation Unit.
The signed loan amounts to EUR 5.3 million and is approved under HBOR's Urban Development Fund loan programme. The loan will be used to finance approximately 75 percent of the investment totalling EUR 7.1 million. The special feature of this financial instrument is the possibility of obtaining up to 50 percent capital discount, which converts part of the loan into a grant.
The project to build the Innovation Centre is an important step forward in the development of entrepreneurial infrastructure in Varaždin with an objective of creating quality conditions for the development of start-ups, micro and small entrepreneurs and growth phase companies. The new facility will cover more than 2,500 m2 of gross area, including office space, conference halls, a studio and shared areas. In addition to the development function, the facility will generate income by renting out office space and halls and by providing various services, thus ensuring the sustainability of the business model, whereas a special focus will be on energy efficiency through the installation of a solar power plant and a charging station for electric vehicles.
"The project is a logical continuation of the development of entrepreneurial infrastructure in Varaždin. Today, innovation infrastructure is one of the key prerequisites for economic growth, and investments like this one create concrete conditions for the development of new products and business models. Through its activities, HBOR systematically supports investments that contribute to the development of entrepreneurship, to exports and to the competitiveness of the economy, and this project fits precisely into such a framework," said Josip Pavković, Member of HBOR’s Management Board.
The special importance of this project is highlighted in the clearly defined demand and sustainable business model generating its own revenues, which ensures its long-term stability, whereas the use of EU funds and of the capital discount mechanism further optimises the financial structure.
