Representatives of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR), led by the President of the Management Board Hrvoje Čuvalo, during the working visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina visited the City of Konjic. On that occasion, together with the representatives of the City, they discussed the implementation of project for the construction of a new reading room as part of the Croatian House in Kostajnica, financed through HBOR’s donation.
The meeting was attended by HBOR’s President of the Management Board Hrvoje Čuvalo, the Management Board members Josip Pavković and Alan Herjavec, while the City of Konjic was represented by Esad Omerović, Mirza Alibašić and Edis Macić.
The City representatives informed the representatives of HBOR about the project implementation progress and pointed out that, after a temporary halt caused by additional geotechnical testing of the terrain, the works had continued and were expected to be completed in September 2026.
After the meeting, the representatives of HBOR visited the construction site to inspect the progress of works at the new facility, which, upon completion, will once again serve as a centre for gatherings, cultural events and social interactions for the Croatian community in Kostajnica.
“When we approved the donation for the renovation of the reading room last year, we wanted to contribute to preserving a space of great significance to the Croatian community in Kostajnica. We are pleased to see that the project is progressing and we believe that, once completed, the reading room will again become a place for gathering, socialising and preserving the local community's cultural identity. For HBOR, it is particularly important to monitor the implementation of the projects we support and ensure that the donated funds fulfil their intended purpose," stated Hrvoje Čuvalo, President of the Management Board of HBOR.
It is worth noting that in May 2025, HBOR approved a donation of EUR 100,000 to the City of Konjic for the construction of a new reading room in Kostajnica, after the existing facility had been severely damaged in the 2024 floods. The project continues the support for preserving a space of special importance to the local community and for strengthening the social and cultural life of the Croatian population in the Konjic area.
